The Environmental Working Group (EWG) recently investigated over 500 sunscreens to find the best working sunblocks that don’t contain harsh chemicals. What they found was quite surprising - the most common brands are the most poorly rated. Many contain chemicals that may be harmful to the skin or don’t provide enough protection against the sun’s harmful rays. Here are the top five, according to the EWG:
Loving Naturals Organic SPF 30 Sunscreen, $25, Amazon.com. This company prides itself on creating the most natural, organic, and effective sunscreens out there.
California Baby SPF 30+ Sunblock Stick, $13.99, Target.com. Rated number two by the EWG, the Sunblock Stick has high UVB sunburn protection, high UVA protection, and has high sunscreen stability.
Badger SPF 30+ Sunscreen Face Stick, $8.50, Amazon.com. The most concerning ingredient in this product is zinc oxide, which could be allergenic. It also is one of the most effective sunscreens available and widely used with excellent results. The other concern is olive oil, so you know this is an all-natural product.
Badger SPF 30+ Sunscreen for Face and Body, Unscented, $11.88, Amazon.com. Badger did really well this year with several products in the top five. Once again, we have high UVB and UVA protection with high sunscreen stability.
Badger SPF 30+ Sunscreen for Face and Body, Lightly Scented, $11.88, Amazon.com. And our final Badger product - exactly the same formulation as the above with a light added scent.
