The recent heat wave has proven that those of us with longer hair need quick and easy ways to get that off our necks so that we don't die of heat exhaustion. A messy bun is the stye this summer, and it's surprisingly quick and easy to accomplish. First, using a teasing comb, tease the crown and sides of you head to create volume. Then, using a paddle brush or your fingers, pull hair loosely back into a ponytail and secure with an elastic. Push the ponytail up towards the top of your head to create more fullness.
Separate the ponytail into one inch sections and curl with a one inch curling iron. Pin each section evenly into a bun shape, making sure to keep it balanced.
To add a bit of flair, try bobby pins with flowers attached, or jeweled pins. Spray lightly with an aerosol hairspray to keep flyaways in place, and you're finished.
Remember, this is supposed to be messy and unkempt. Don't fuss too much over it, and keep it loose and easy.
