June 2012 Archives

While most of us aren't going to be parading around the streets wearing a flag on the Fourth of July, we do want to show our respect and pride for our country by wearing red, white and blue. Rather than wearing all three colors from head-to-toe, incorporate one or two of the colors or perhaps a star and stripe graphic instead for a more subtle approach to the style. Here's a few of our favorite Fourth of July looks for this year that can be easily incorporated for America's birthday bash.

Nautical looks and summer go together like sunscreen and beaches. No matter your style, there's a good chance you own at least one--or 20--nautical striped tops and wear them in heavy rotation. But what do you do when the stripes get boring? This summer, you turn to anchors. While this print often shows up on kids' clothing, designers have found ways to keep it age-appropriate for moms this year by exaggerating the print--oversize and miniature--and by placing them on looks that don't scream 'sailor suit'. And if you still can't commit to wearing an anchor, go with a summery, timeless tote or accessory.

If going to the local park, theme park, camping or anywhere outdoors where you might not want to go with exposed toes to is on your agenda for the summer, then you may want to consider trying summer's hottest trend -- wedge sneakers. Comfortable, yet practical, in bright colors and neutrals you'll be able to wear these shoes just about anywhere. For the perfect look pair with skinny jeans or shorts for a look that is as stylish as it is comfortable.

It certainly isn't back-to-school-time yet but we're betting Crayola's latest box of colors is sure to be on your next shopping list. Just released this week, Crayola has launched a limited edition set of eight mini nail polishes in shades that are perfect for summertime pedicures. Choose from glittery finishes and metallic hues in fun shades like blue, green, pink and yellow. Sure, you can say it's for the kids but we wouldn't blame you one bit for trying it yourself.

After you've moved all your tank tops and shorts to the front of the closet, it's now time to freshen up your beauty cabinet too. The best place to start is with a light and fresh fragrance that reminds you of summer. Think fresh and light scents with notes of coconut, vanilla, gardenia, and citrus to have your scent transported to a tropical island. Beauty hint: spritz a little on post-shower so the scent stays with you longer.
